How Do I Get My World of Warcraft Account Back After It Was Hacked?

I’ve been playing WoW for almost a year now and have acquire a lot of great items and high level characters. The other day I noticed that I couldn’t login to my account anymore as someone has hacked into my account and changed my password. How can I get my WoW account back after it has been hacked?
The good thing about Blizzard being a huge company is that they have a lot of safeguards in place to help when an account is hacked. If you find that your account has been hacked and you no longer have access, the best thing to do is to get on Blizzard’s web site and call their customer service phone number.
The agent that you speak to will ask you a series of questions that will take you through the information you used when you set up your account. They will also go through some security measures with you to ensure that you are the true owner of the account.
Once the agent is satisfied that you are you, they will restore your account back to you. When your account is yours again, you need to go through your information on the World of Warcraft web site and change your password and any other security information so that it is different than before. Then, you need to check your characters.
Chances are that if someone has hacked your account, then your characters will be deleted or stripped, so you may have to start all over with gold, armor, and other items.
There really is not a lot that Blizzard can do to help you in this situation, so you may just be out all the goods and gold that you had.

To safeguard against your account getting hacked, there are several things that you can do:
- Keep an up-to-date version of both spy ware and anti-virus programs that constantly scan your computer for problems.
- NEVER give out your account information to ANYONE. This only compromises the security of your account, and you have no recourse if your characters are stripped.
- Change your password every month or more. This will help to keep hackers from figuring out your password.
Make sure that you take any precautions that you can to ensure that your account is not hacked, and if you suspect that someone else has gotten into your account, report it immediately.
Yes definitely give Blizzard a call, they will be able to help. The IP address will be a dead giveaway that your account was compromised. You should have no problems getting it back.

i’ve had my account hacked very very recently and i called blizz (i live in scandinavia) and they wouldent do anything at all

Just wanted to chime in with my own comments.. If you are hacked, Blizzard will restore your account as was stated above. They will also restore gear and gold, which was not mentioned above. They did it for me when my account was hacked. What happened to my friend, and was not so pleasant for him, is that his account was hacked and everything was stripped of his chars as was mine. BUT… they also used his characters to sell gold which got the account banned. Now, once that’s happened, it’s a whole other story because now it’s a case of who-dun-it. If Blizzard believes your innocent, you’ll likely get your account back, but the items may not be returned as my friends weren’t because the hacker sold the gold and got caught. Truly a bummer for him since he was completely innocent. Blizzards stance on it seems to be that if you or a hacker ‘exploits the economy’ of warcraft, then the items and gold used in that exploitation are forever removed. To keep that from happening, just use common sense. Don’t visit gold farming sites advertised in-game. Don’t visit other sites that claim to have ‘hacks’ or cheats for the game because there are NONE. The games programs contents are held on Server side so any hack might change numbers, but they do not affect game play. Visiting these types of sites are an invitation for hackers to get account information.. Hope this little info helps.

i think the hacker is a gold seller coz a player’s addon told him that i was a gold seller,so the hacker only changed my pass 2 days ago but i dont know how long he actually had it…

i got hacked yesterday recently and now i want revenge and now my 60 and 70 are stripped free of all my money and gear =( T_T t5/t6 geared druid and lvl 60horde hunter if you guys are on fenris please if you see my hunter please spam this guy till he logs off the game and destroys his comp im sad =( T_T
I, too, was hacked. And I have no idea where I picked up the keylogger that presumably was responsible. As a result of being hacked, I did what I could do, though — I completely formatted my drive, and installed my antivirus software before ever once setting foot onto the internet. After that, got all the updates to the operating system.
I still have my account locked. It will soon be 48 hours since I fax’d the copy of my identification to them. Since the locking, I have received notification that my characters had been restored, as well as their items. So now all that remains is that final step of unlocking the account.
The time down from the game, however, has allowed me to investigate a bit more on safety measures out there to help us.
1) A program called KeyScrambler — it is free for your web browser.
2) An addon for Firefox called “NoScript” — this defaults to denying scripts to run on pages you view. But, if you are absolutely certain that the site is safe, you can quite easily allow scripts.
3) A program called “SnoopFree Privacy Shield 1.0.7″ — which alerts you to any program trying to attach itself to your computers keystrokes.
And lastly, but best of all — a device that is currently out of stock, but which I will get as SOON as Blizz has them back in stock…A Blizzard Authenticator.

With this device, you not only need to log on with your username and password as normal — but you will have to take that additional step of checking the ever-changing code on the authenticator. In other words, you must have physical possession of this gadget in order to log in.
The Blizzard representative I spoke with on the phone said that they sold out of them in two days, and that Blizzard is selling the devices AT COST. And at only $6.50 for one of them, I can certainly believe that. I’ve read that others buying similar devices for their companies were able only to drive the cost down to about $20 apiece when buying lots of a couple/few thousand. So I am guessing that Blizz’s first lot was a couple/few HUNDRED thousand. And even that wasn’t enough — obviously.

Also just been hacked – Blizz didn’t respond to my emails (sent the first one wednesday when I discovered my account was hacked) but I rang them today and they jumped on it pretty quickly – now all I have to do is get back on and see what’s left of my gear :S Reckon I’ll be left with Cheesestraw of the Monkey, and that’s if I’m lucky.

hey im on fenris my friends resto druid just got hacked and the hacker are during TK/Kara/SSC and shit gearing the druid up… not sure if its a bad thing… to the girl who got hacked what was ur druids name?

I was hacked about a week ago, My PW was changed and my contact info is old so i cant use the PW recovery system. Im calling Blizz atm to see what they can do. If anything, war is coming ;P
My account got hacked twice in 2 weeks, after the first hack I re-installed my OS, got new anti-virus, spayware,and I started using a ‘vitual keybord’ to type in passwords. I still got hacked after all that. Here are a few things I learned:
1-Dealing with Blizzard is like dealing with the govnment, it sucks! Everytime you call, e-mail, put in a ticket, expect something like.. ‘we are currently experiencing a high volume of requests…..’ It took 7 days to get my char. back that was deleted, and it was just my toon. no gear, gold ect..
2- Get an authenticator, it doesnt matter what antivirus you have, those chinene find a way in. A keylogger can be in anything, including confirmed keyloggers in ‘adobe’ software, wich almost everyone has on there computer.
3- Change your E-mail address. That’s how they got in the second time. They used my E-mail to receive a password retevial, so they didn’t even have to use a keylogger, they just ask Blizzard what my password was and they got it through my E-mail.
Moral of the story…. get an Authenticator. I have heard of one single case where someone still got hacked while using it, but If only one has gotten hacked with that, I’ll take my chances.
Lvl 80 dk full t7 epics and multipe epic weps hacked. 4k gold, sent blizz an email havent recieved anything back yet, hope that they can get it back before anything gets stripped or deleted. i hate hackers so much, what makes them so motivated to piss people off. Plus its just a video game, why bother.
my account got hacked, I called told them my secret answer etc so they sent me a new password to my account via email. When I logged into my account all the gold was gone, bags/bank emptied and a bunch of level one warriors had been created on various servers on my account. (who were all in guilds with deposit only access to bank, which had thousands of gold in them)
I emailed blizzard about this and asked if they could get my stuff back.
The permanently banned my account for exploitation. So basically, if you get hacked and end up getting back in, just take the loss, if you tell them your account was hacked they will possibly ban you. In the end they can do whatever they want and give no reasoning.

Umm call BLIZZARD and tell them that your account was hacked and they can recover your username and reset your password for you if you give them the last authentication code used on the account
I played wow and then stopped. One week later I get hacked. The hacker changed my accounts password AND email-address T_T I lost my 80 Death knight 70 Rogue and 60 Hunter. I keep trying to call blizz but its always busy. I wanna play again with my friends but I dont see that happening anytime soon…
I was hacked on Friday, Blizzard got done returning my stuff on Monday, but oh wait, admin doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo that the account was compromised and was banned for actions during that time. Seriously you’d think these people would link their cases or something. I mean my goodness, it’s like trying to convince everyone on a jury that you’re innocent, but the jury members don’t talk to each other and you have to walk five miles just to find their separate office buildings to plead your case…..and they send their verdicts by turtles…..crippled turtles.
okay, this person talkd me n2 doing this one thing where they could give me a 80 warrior, and they asked me for my account name and my secret answer, and bfor i did all that, i checked the wow website for a thing like that, and its true, u can do that, so i believed them, and did it. then an hour l8r i tried getting bak on, and my password is changed, the email my account wuz hooked up 2 is gone, and and now i cant log on, and i want it bak cuz i had a 63 DK i had worked on FOREVER, if anyof u know wut 2 do, PLZ EMAIL ME “tear”

Some notes after my account was hacked:
besides everything stated above, I have expirienced some interesting things:
1. Key Scrambler – piece of shit…I used that after my acc was returned and got my e-mail hacked (I didnt know which PC was infected…)
2. If you got ur E-mail account hacked….contact your internet provider ASAP and ask them to reset ur mail box PW (if you are using smth else not gmail, yahoo etc…)
3. NON of Ad-Aware, Spyware, anti-virus found anything at all in my PC, but it had Key logger, so in my opinion, try to find some software, created specifically for that.
4. Of course, re-install OS as it very very necessary imo.
After all…I got my account back today: re-installed OS,changed PW to account, mail…
I hope I will be able to connect today, after I get back home from work.
Good Luck guys, who got hacked…I have lost all my gear from main character (Ulduar 25/NAxx25), but got in game mail, that Blizz is working on that and I will receive all back during few days, so to all, who can not get acc/stuff back – Keep ur head up, it just a matter of time.

Well i didn’t get hacked but something strange happened to my account I CAN’T LOG ON my account it say something about battle.net and to send e-mail and write password and something it attached on Battle.net account something like this…i can’t understant very well what IT mean….can anyone PLEASE help me?I really need my account back…i got 72 Death Knight with VERY VERY good gear 55 level rogue,24 Paladin and more!Please i can’t live with out my account….

I own 2 accounts. I was on one of them when it suddenly disconnected, I tried to log back in and it said the username /password was wrong. After a few tries I logged onto my other account to open a GM ticket.
While I was waiting for the GM one of my toons from the other account logged in! I quickly sent them a whisper and the person who hacked my account wa dumb enough to actually talk back to me. When the GM fianlly responded he was able to see the chat log and trace the hackers IP address.
I called blizzard the next morning, they asked me a few personal questions that only I would know, and then reset my account so I could gain control of it again..
The hacker had changed all of my information, email, name, even phone number. But it was all a waste of time on their part because within 3 days I had full control of my account back.
My toons had been moved around and some of my gear was different but blizzard was able to give me back the gold and items I had lost.
+++HOW THEY DO IT+++
There is a illeagle program that hackers have created. All they have to do is enter a toons name and if that toon is online the program will begin to run.What it does is cycle through millions of email and password posibilities,if the hacker has no life and nothing better to do then they can sit there and enter these sets of possible info over and over until they finally hit on one that works.
Got my account hacked today. It looks like blizzard staff don’t work on weekends and that is when he waited to do it. It has something to do with the new battle.net system. What kills me is they used and email address that was not min and in china to a cell phone. Come on blizzard do you not have anything set up to see red flags. Then my guild mates even tried to report it and blizzard just said only the account holder can(How?) Now I have to wait until monday to see how bad the damage is. I tell you this though, if everything is gone like I have read happened to everyone else, then blizzard has lost my business for life. No matter what anyone says there are numerous things blizzard could do to safegaurd this but they choose not to. There is no business I know of where you could waste there hard earned time (1000+ hours) and expect your customer to ever return. Plus It had something to do with battle.net not me. There is no way of getting my password for I went above and beyond.

the hacker could say bad things to my friends the hacker could delete them and could delete my account i just hope when i get my account back that i will have my friends still on my friends list my lvl 13 account that i worked hard on and my first gold coin. i wonder why hackers hack people that done nothing rong we just play world of warcraft just like every one else.i hope i wont get hacked agin

Hi, i think i have been recently hacked, basically a few days ago my wow failed to launch and basically to me to reinstall:( so i reinstalled wow classic + BC but i ordered wrath online. so i went to go to manage my accounts section to dl it, but when i try to logg in it said user name or password incorrect:( even though they are correct. so i tried even using the forgot my password option and it sais that that email does not exist?, but it does:( , pls pls some one help im major stuck,
and another very big prob i have is im on a eu account but in Australia for a year

I got hacked yesterday. Someone merged my wow account with a battle.net account. I cant get blizzard to answer my emails and the 2 phone numbers I have been able to find are both out of service. If anyone has a valid phone number please help me out. I would really like to have my account back.

my account was hacked on 14/9/09 and i created my account 2 years before it so i cant remember wat my secret question is let alone the answer so im gonna call blizz and see if they can do anything about it
as stated before the ip address is a dead give away so im gonna give them my ip so they can ban that sucker from WOW
P.S. i haven’t given my account details to anyone so i dont know how they got my account details but i pissed 2 people off the day (just because i didnt let them come into *For the alliance* when i was asking for 70+ and they were 60s) before i was hacked so i will give blizz their names to be investigated

My account got hacked over the course of twelve hours, the time from when I logged off and went to bed, and tried playing in the morning.
When I went to log in, I found my password had been changed. So I reset the password and logged in to play. Only to find that the hacker had stripped the gear from most characters, and even was so slimy as to DELETE MY CHARACTERS! They deleted a pally and hunter both at 80.
No sooner had I sent an email asking if Blizzard can restore the deleted characters, they send me an email claiming my account is permanently disabled. WTF? They haven’t answered me emails yet.
I’m pissed with the hacker and Blizzard at this point. Bad enough some jerk hacked my account ruining characters and deleting characters, but then Blizzard closes my account?
I want the money I paid them back.
I got my account hacked last night, a Friday night but got ahold of Blizzard within 20 minutes of them closing until Monday. Me and my Mom have an account and play together, we both got disconnected and someone was able to merge BOTH of our wow accounts to their battlenet account which did not match our email from wow, how hard would it be to send an email verifying the merge?! Also we are on the refer-a-friend program and I hope our accounts are still linked. I did get control of my account but all toons on both accounts are deleted. *DEVASTATED* Have gotten no-reply emails from Wow/Blizzard and hope I can get toons back at this point I dont care about gold/items, I just want my high level toons back!
Ok, Here is people’s main way of hacking you….False websites. If you ever get a in-game private msg saying go to this website you have one something etc… Don’t do it! They will fhish you into It making it looks like a WoW website And take ur account just by visiting a site…. I don’t know how they do it but if you ever get a in-game private message it’s a hack same thign happened to me, Luckily i contacted blizzard and everything worked out fine.
Hey guys your not the only one. They stole my account then deleted my char acters. Now i callled blizzard. They got my account back but not the characters yet. The hacker made a bunch of characters for gold sellng. I am pissed off at blizzard
my account was hacked on a friday at 10 p.m (WTF are the chances in that)
so i called blizzard monday then they hung up on me. I call them again at
9 p.m and waited for them to take me off HOLD! ATFER WAITING FOR 40 minutes!

My account was hacked earlia and im sure blizz will restore when i ring. see the hacker changed the email adress to. anyway. i got some advice to perminately stop keyloggers. put ur password into microsoft word and copy paste it every time u use wow. keyloggers can only hack when u type ur password in.
oh another bit of advice. if u getan email saying that bliz has perminately disabled ur account… that message is mainly for the hacker so they wont try it again. most likely u havent read the email properly. email blizz back after changing ur email adress password, virus scanning. type

oh yet my fourth piece of advice. (read the above parts of this one)
if you fear that your character has been deleted by a hacker or weapons/gear lost, go to this website http://www.wowarmory.com and type ur character name in. find ur character under the list and click it. it will show ur character, level, and items equiped also achievements and statistics. the only thing it doesnt show is ur inventory/ backpack items and amount of gold u got
my acct was hacked about 6 hours ago i checked armory and one of my toons is already naked. my acct was merged with some battle.net acct and i am unable to log in or on …… wish i could hack my own acct back
ya 2 days ago my account just got hacked…..i had a lvl 80nite elf rouge and was almost full 245 t.9 geared….he only need 4pieces left to be fully geared…so 1nite my son was upstairs playing my toon while i was asleep…..he said in the morning he ran ToC 10MAN and ONY25man and got me 2pieces of 245 gear…Bfang hood….and Vancleefs Shoulders of triumph…….he said after he ran them he went to bed…..the next day he told me he couldnt get on my account……so i went upstairs and tried to get in like 20times and still nothing…..i thot of wat could have happend then it got to me…..i went to yahoo and checked my email and a whole bunch of freakin WoW emails were sent to me…the hacker changed my account name and password….luckily my son had told me in time and i called Blizz and told them wat happend…..i never knew this would happen to me but it thot fast….blizz told me the instructions and started using them……now all i have to do is just wait a couple of days and see wat happends…..i had like 94g and not much stuff in my bags…..i just hoped i didnt get stripped off my gear…i rly worked hard for that gear and id do anything to have it bak…..i just hope that blizz will do good on this situation….
My account was hacked, he sold all my items except my gear on the character and was using the guy to farm gold I know of this becuase a recovered the password and found this out. Two hours later the account gets closed for partisapation in gold selling/buying. Hopfully I get a response from blizzard and they restore the account and my 7k gold. Oh and if you buy the account and you don’t change the details on it it will be banned for good, happened to my friend.
