What Happened To The Auctioneer Addon For WoW?

I have been playing World of Warcraft for a long time now and one of my all time favorite addons is Auctioneer Addon. I was really upset to see it pretty much fall off the face of the earth right before The Burning Crusade expansion was released. Is a new version ever going to be available again? If so, why has it taken so long?

Auctioneer is one of the most used World of Warcraft addons in my opinion. After the 2.0 patch came out it really changed a lot of things in the WoW user interface in terms of programming.

As you may remember almost all the popular addons quit working and the addon developers were off to the races to get them working again. A lot of this involved having to change the way the addons were programmed. This really caused a demise of many different addons as the developers didn’t want to spend the countless hours to get it fixed.

Another point to remember is the addon creators are doing this and not making any money from doing them. That makes it really hard to do since the hours available to work on them is very limited.

Another thing is it can be extremely hard to find other programmers to help test out the new addons and the more complicated they are the more bugs that need to be worked out of them.

Auctioneer has really been hit hard from these various things. They have been developing a new version of Auctioneer addon since patch 2.0 came out in November of 2006. It has been in and out of Gamma release since then.

The good news is yes there is a new version coming and according to the Auctioneer website there is one available now, version 4.0! Just remember…all good things come to those who wait.
