How Do I Play On The WoW Public Test Realm?
I see that the public test realm has opened up and I really want to play on it to test out other classes to try. I can’t seem to figure out how to do it please help me.
There is one major requirement you must first see if you are eligible to play on the Public Test Realm and it is:
Only World of Warcraft accounts that have been active since November 13, 2006 are currently eligible to participate on the public test realm. If your account was not active during this time, you will not be able to log in to the test realms. Please do not contact Blizzard about eligibility.
Now, I’m going to assume that you meet this requirement and will guide you along the rest of the way.
First off you will have to login to your World of Warcraft account on the WoW main site, which is located underneath the “Quick Links”. Once you are logged in you will then have to click on “Test Realm Character Copy” which is shown in the screenshot below:

After you click that then you will be instructed to “Download the Client” first and then to “Copy a Character”.

You can then download the PTR files for either PC or Mac depending on which you use. The download process uses Blizzard’s Downloader and works just like a normal patch download does. While these are downloading you can then start either copying a character you already have or have fun copying a premade character over.

The next few things are pretty self-explanatory, they include choosing either which of your characters to copy over or which premade character you want to copy over. It will take some time in order for the copy to process, at the time of this writing it is taking 2 hours to get a premade character copied over to the test realms.
Once you get your download completed and your character copied over then you can launch the test version of WoW in the “World of Warcraft\WoWTest” folder. Just double click on WoW and you are ready to go!

That’s all there is to it. Have fun!
