How Do I Get World of Warcraft Coordinates On My Map?

I have been playing WoW for some time now and whenever I play or look up where something is I always see numbers like (45,69). What are these? They do no good for me when i’m trying to find something so why do I see them everywhere and how can I get them on my WoW map to start using them?

If you take a look at (34,59) you will understand these things completely.

Ok, just kidding…but I can easily see how frustrating it is to not use them when everyone gives out coordinates instead of a description of location.

The numbers themselves are WoW coordinates. There are a lot of addons that use these in order to make it easier to find certain things so instead of trying to describe where things are they can just give coordinates (x,y). It does make things a lot easier and quicker.

The only way you can start using these is to download a World of Warcraft map coordinates addon. These addons add the coordinates to your map and usually give a player location in terms of coordinates as well as cursor position on the map as well.

Cartographer is the one that I use. Not only does it give coordinates but also tons of other useful things and even more things that I have yet to realize it can do. :)

Check out that one but you can also do a search on Curse Gaming and get tons of different addons that you can use. You should be able to find one that works well for you.

Remember the bottom line is that you will be the one looking at it all the time so find one you like.

Thanks. A straight answer, rather than the dismissive, totally arrogant responses (and with no answer either!) I’ve had when asking the same question at other sites.

Great :D Thanks for the nice answer! Informative and straight forward. :)

Glad someone’s telling how to get the coords, so annoying when a lvl 70 doesn’t have coords.

  6. Feldran says:

Wrong info there, you don’t need an add-on for coordinates.
Make an ingame macro (type /m) select new pick an icon and give it a name, click ok.
Then in the text window for that macro use the following:

    /script px,py=GetPlayerMapPosition(”player”)
    /script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(format(”[ %s ] %i , %i”,GetZoneText(),px*100,py*100));

drag your macro icon to your action bar, click it and you get your current coordinates.

Thanks so much Feldran! That’s just what I needed. I’ve heard before that one could write a macro, but I’ve never been given instructions so I could do it!

Feldran.. great work.. but.. I find that I need a macro that tells me where.. a specific coordinate IS.. like.. I look up a quest and it tells me that it’s at .. say.. 32,39… I use your macro.. and find out I’m at 68/64.. great.. I’m in Shat.. how do i know which land.. 32,39 is in.. so I can get there and then.. start using the macro to work my way to that loc ??

Appreciate what you have done.. but.. always looking for more.. lol :) thanks

  13. Deadlyte says:

Everyland..has..a 32, 39. Specifically speaking, EVERYTHING is on a coordinate plane and each zone falls within those planes. Each map is it’s own plane so it has a “32,39.” IE: Hellfire Peninsula and Tarrokar forest BOTH have a 32,39. So does say..Ashenvale.

    awesome stuff, Feldran.

Works like a charm. I didn’t want to download any addons but this is the only thing that had me tempted to do so. So awesome that I don’t have to download anything to get the coords system. :D

    THANKYOU cartographer is werry helpfull!

  16. Breth of Chronic Crusaders says:

I don’t know how many people realize this so I figure its probably worth mentioning. Coords that you find on the web, from addons or even macro’s are just straight forward percentages. The first coord is the “from left to right percent” and the second is the “from top to bottom percent” so coords like 30,60 is 30% across and 60% down on any map, knowing this you never actually need an addon or macro. But for finding a very very specific spot it is a little more difficult. Whichever… CJ-aka Breth

Now THIS is really useful information. Thank you Breth!

Thanks to everybody actually for taking the time to contribute and help. I have the co-ord add-ons but couldnt quite get it.. thanks to Breth now I do
