Why Do High Level WoW Characters Kill Me For No Reason?
Posted on March 13, 2007 by ApadweI've had it!!! I have started leveling up a new WoW character on a PvP server the other day and it seems like everywhere I go I get killed by at least one Alliance player! This one WoW player kept killing me over and over and finally once he was done a different one started killing me! I know they don't benefit from killing me, so I want to know why do they do that?
Welcome to a PvP server! I play Horde as well and this is something that happens to everyone at least once (if they are lucky!) while leveling. To make matters worse…this seems to happen more in Outlands while trying to reach level 70.
As for the reason this happens…I don't believe there is one answer to the reason why this happens but here are a few that I truly believe contribute to this problem in World of Warcraft.
They are bored. This is probably one of the top reasons this happens. The player gets bored with leveling, grinding, battlegrounds, or whatever so they decide to go "camp" the towns of other factions and to "hunt" for low level players to kill.
They are helping out a low level player. I have fell victim to this one as well. You help a low level player level up and you see an Alliance player run by and all of a sudden you are like a dog chasing a bone! So, you go kill the Alliance player and come back to help out your low level friend.
They can't kill someone their own level. This one has probably happened a lot. The player constantly gets killed by other players his level so he decides to take on revenge against the low level players.
They just like to make you mad. I have also fell victim to this one as well. In my case my low level alt kept getting killed by a level 49 hunter, so I brought in Apadwe and continued to kill the lvl 49 over and over again as well as any buddies he had come over. I did this long enough to know that I really did make him mad.
As i'm sure there are tons of other reasons that this happens. I believe the 4 reasons listed are the top reasons this happens. Another thing is that it just isn't the Horde or Alliance that do this…both factions take part in this if they admit it or not.
It really is a cycle that happens. You play your low level and get ganked over and over again and once you hit higher levels you go for revenge which in turn makes the low level you are ganking mad and once they hit higher levels they go and start ganking as well and so on.
It isn't pleasant when it happens but I consider it to be a "fact of life" in the World of Warcraft.

Yep thats a fact of like on WoW man, usually the same happened to them while they were "growing up." For example I have an Alliance Pally and had to go to this place in the north, Shadowfangkeep or SFK its called. My groupies weren't there so had to go alone. And thats in Horde territory too. It took me 9 time to go all the way to get there and lo behold there are these guys near the summoning thing in SFK. they kept killing me so I had to wait like hours until my pals came. IT sucked but we whooped their sorry behinds when we go together. So whenever they kill you just remember sweet revenge will be your in the near future. Aite? PEACE!

From an alliance point of view, and a gnomes (gnomes are picked on the most, you know it!) ganking is normal. I actually find some situations an epic scenario which throws me out of the norm. whether its a big chase, a clever ambush, or that choice between getting ganked and jumping that cliff (you never know your odds!), it gets your blood pulsing and gets you into the game again. But camping is just wrong, you get your kill, have your kicks and go. Ive seen ganking turn into a 70's battlefield because of the escalation. It lasted for a week and a half too!!!
NOT FUN.
I like ur site apadwe, keep at it and rememba allaince r people too

LOL! When I first started playing on a pvp server I already had a level 60 mage on another server. I almost quit my pvp toon out of frustration, but I realized that these are two different factions competing. In a war, you dont want more high level opponents coming, so you make it harder for them to level up. Although, I agree that camping does go too far… get a kill or two then "bow" and move on.
btw… FOR THE HORDE!!!! (I eat alliance up for breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Some places are worse for ganking than others… example is Astranaar since it is so close to BFD and the Barrens. I can't come close to completing a quest there without being gang ganked a few times. I have spent well over an hour outside of BFD waiting for campers to leave our group's bodies alone, only to have to call in every one of our different guild mates for a raid party to get the Horde to leave.
I'm not much into repeat ganking or camping myself. Yesterday, there was a Horde there that I hit once & then when I saw her again & again I would come out of stealth just to show her I was around and watching her. I never touched her again. I did it more to protect the 11-21 level Alliances in the area.
But regardless, if you want safe gameplay, then join a PvE server. Otherwise, play a rogue or a druid & walk everywhere very very slowly & stealthy.

The occasional happenstance gank is bound to happen. I do it myself once in a while. Just today, some level 37 was hanging out near a hordie town so I went up, cut him down (lvl 43 pally), and walked off, warning other hordies on my way back out to watch out for him. Problem is, you get people with no lives coming in, ganking, and then just standing on your body. Now, not only do you have a repair bill, you also have to either wait until he sees someone else to go be stupid about or take the huge hit from rezing at the spirit healer, which sucks.
When I hit 70, I'll probably just go hit up places like STV to scout out other high levels ganking my hordies. If I take revenge, I usually do it to the people who ganked me first. At that point, a little camping is acceptable. This jerk just ganked you, teach him you don't forgive.

Ganking is just part of life on a PVP server, and you're bound to run into someone with little better to do than corpse-camp and repeat gank. Its lame, but it happens.
A few things to keep in mind: if you're in a contested area, expect a fight. If you're at a summoning stone, expect a fight (and potentially being horribly outnumbered). If you see red letters in the distance, even in a neutral area, expect a fight. If you're dead, expect to get sat on, laughed at, spit on, mocked, taunted and everything you might or might not do to celebrate the thrill of the kill.
I think a pattern should be emerging here…
You're on a PVP server, so buckle down and learn how to be an effective fighter with your class. Or at least learn how to survive long enough for your opponent to die first. Barring that… survive long enough for help to arrive or you can split the area. Nobody is making you stick around and die (except maybe the guy killing you).
Other than that, kill often, be merciless in battle and leave no questions when you are the victor. I usually won't waste my time on unfair fights either way, but I will go after someone who I've had a close fight with until its clear who has the upper hand. Know your skills and your level with using them - it will help you learn when and when to not fight.
Oh, and do remember that it is just a game. Have fun, for pete's sake!
