Can WoW Addons Get My Account Banned?

I have not used any WoW addons or Mods with WoW, but I am interested in the
capabilities they can give me. I am especially interested in the
Auctioneer and the Cartographer add-ons. Will using these WoW addons give
Blizzard a reason to want to ban my account?

Great question as I know there are a lot of people that think it can get your account banned. Let’s take a look and see what World of Warcraft add ons really are and how they perform.

First off, addons let you modify the user interface to help you create your own custom interface and there are a lot of addons out there that let you do a lot of things that Blizzard didn’t originally write into the default user interface (UI).

Since Blizzard knew how there were a lot of people who like programming different mods for their other games they actually wrote into World of Warcraft the ability to program your own mods. These mods are ones that use the LUA programming script and addons can only use specific functions that Blizzard has allowed access to.

Ultimately, Blizzard can control what addons can and can’t do in the game. So with WoW addons Blizzard really still controls what you can do in an addon so just by using addons you will not get banned.

But you still want to be careful as to which addons you use and I would stick with the well known addons or write your own. Some people like to steal passwords and install keylogger software on your computer to get into your account.

As for using the WoW Auctioneer addon and the Cartographer addon, I have used both of those addons and continue to use them. Another one I used to use all the time was Titan Panel.

You also want to make sure that you download them from a good source such as the developer’s website or one of the massive WoW addon databases such as Curse Gaming.

So you can’t get banned just by using WoW addons and the Auctioneer addon along with the Cartographer addons are fantastic addons that I use and have been used by many without any problems from Blizzard.

If you’re not using a few addons, you’re gonna get left behind. One thing I have to stress completely is: GET COORDS. I’m so tired of people saying they’re getting ganked in STV and the like, but they can’t tell me where they are because they don’t know their coordinates. Same goes for higher levels who are raring to go about clearing off gankers, but don’t know how to get to you because they don’t have coords.
The only option there is for them to be in your group, and that’s a pain.

Thank goodness for that, I got a message when I installed something called PriestShaodwUI or something, I accidently clicked next, and it said some like Termination, and so I have to wait about 20 days now, to see if I read it right, but this is a big comfort :)

I had my account suspended without notice due to use of Auctioneer (well, at least that’s the best I can determine as WOW doesn’t tell you exactly what you did).

They were pretty good about turning it back on when I informed them that if I had been warned I would have simply stopped using it.

I didn’t get to a very high level, and I wasn’t farming… so be warned it can happen to anyone.

Ive used auctioneer for YEARS and have never had a problem with the blizz staff. My wife who plays also has used the same addon for at LEAST as long as I have… Sid you either are not telling the whole story or your just confused as to what happened. Goto the OFFICIAL wow forums and you will see, addons are perfectly fine to use according to the EULA. So yeah being banned CAN happen to anyone… thats giving blizz a reason.
