As soon as something becomes banned, there will arise an Underground market for it. Weed is illegal in Canada, but you can smell it being smoked everywhere. HAHA Blizzard has to understand that by saying something is banned, it creates a desire to have it. I got a purple whisper message to me from some Blizz-Bot saying something about the trade currency violation or some crap, however i've never done a gold purchase before, so it scares me that they are pointing fingers blindly. Worst of all I couldn't whisper back to defend myself. Damn Elitist A-Holes, they're so filthy rich ALREADY !
Spread the wealth around your TYRANTS !

I was also banned for buying gold (from a reputable site). I bought it twice and was banned the second time. Losing a character I was working with for years was a bit of bummer. I think the answer for the situtaion is for Blizzard to have servers dedicated to customers who are willing to pay for gold. Everyone on it can buy what they like from Blizzard, and no one therefore is considered to be cheating other's gameplay in any way. Anyone caught doing so on the other servers is moved to the gold buying servers. Although a great game all around, there are times when it gets really drawn out and for the sake of entertainment (which what this is about of course) you want to move on to something new and more interesting. Often you need gold to do that. Buy having "legalized" gold buying servers Blizzard makes more money and theoretically should be happy and people who want to play they game their own way are happy. EA games Battlefield Hero is a good example of that model.

The Blizzard WoW ToS state they can suspend or terminate your account "for any reason or no reason." So, even though neither the ToS or EULA specifically mention buying gold, that doesn't mean they cannot suspend you for it.

I bought gold...once..about three years ago. I got an email in march that
my account was getting closed.

Account Action: Closure
Reason for Action: Terms of Use Violation - Economy Exploitation
After a thorough investigation, we have found that a player of the account listed above participated in activities designed to gain an unfair advantage in the World of Warcraft economy. These activities violate the World of Warcraft Terms of Use. We ask that you take a moment to review these terms at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html.

so... it took them three years and it says its permaban. i have not played wow in like 18 months but was about to start playing...when i pulled up my old email adress to read this.(after trying to login)

i have emailed them.we will see whats up
