How/When Are The World of Warcraft Arena Points Updated?

I just started playing the World of Warcraft arena with some friends. We spent an hour and played about 12 matches yesterday. I noticed today after checking my arena points that I don’t have any points still. My Battlegrounds PvP points updated but how come my arena points did not?

Don’t worry there is nothing wrong with the WoW arena system. It actually is a quite common misconception about the World of Warcraft arena. Just think back to the times when the Honor points were calculated on a weekly basis i.e. before patch 2.0.

The same system is in play with the WoW arena. Arena points are calculated only during maintenance on Tuesday mornings, not everyday like the honor points.

How does Blizzard calculate the arena points?

Since you have done some arena matches before you probably realize the team rating that goes up if you win and down if you don’t. Anyway, WoW calculates your weekly arena points by your team rating. The higher the team rating the more points you can earn at the end of the week. Just remember also that in order to “qualify” for arena points your team has to play 10 matches and the team members have to play in at least 30% of all the team games.

They also use a formula to calculate how many points you will get at the end of the week. This formula is based on the Elo ranking system used for professional chess (thanks goodness this isn’t chess…).

WoW Arena Team Rating To Arena Points Formula
X = Team Rating; Y = Arena Points;

If X > 1500: Y = 2894/(1+259*e^(-0.0025*X))
Else: Y = 0.206*X+99

Don’t worry you don’t have to understand this formula in order to make sense of the system. One thing to note is that once your team rating is 1500 or higher you gain WoW arena points at a faster rate than if it is below 1500.

So if you want that arena gear get your team rating over 1500. Hopefully this helped clear up a few things about the arena system and watch this space because I will be creating a WoW arena point calculator so you won’t have to wait until the end of the week to see how many points you will get!

So it isn’t based on how many matches you win a week?
    BRING BACK HWL EPICS!

  2. Apadwe says:

No, the arena points are based on your rating only. You could play 200 matches a week but can still be stuck at the same rating depending on your win/loss ratio.

the Arena is pretty hard i think from 2v2 is even harder as a mage because i always get atacked, but if i was in a 1v1 i would win all the time i think its pretty much unfair that i will always get atacked stright away and since i am cloth i will die stright away bring me 1v1 !! and more arena points a week i had 2 arena teams a 2v2 and a 3v3 played 10 matches on both but i only gained like 300-400 from both alltogether both are over 1400 its low but still should get more shouldnt i ?

  4. shorty says:

  5. Apadwe says:

    If your team is a:

2v2 you will get 240 points
3v3 you will get 278 points
5v5 you will get 315 points

Lol, mages think they have it hard? I get owned every time I fight a team with a mage in 2v2. Constantly either I or my friend is pollymorphed and we get picked apart one at a time.

Btw, I can own a mage 1v1 and im a warrior. Muhuhahahahahaha.

ok well i used a couple calculators for my arena points thy were all wrong i just started arena last night and well we got in alota matches and got up to 406 rating for one night and the calculator said i would get 76 arena points but i got like 256 so somethings wrong in there

  9. donald says:

well first of all matt they are talking pre wotlk where 406 rating was unheard of. But now with the new setup of arena stating at zero and all you get a certain amount of points for just playing regardless of ratinglike being 406.

  10. Alex says:

This article is wrong with points so are all the others my first night before the arena i played 10 games i won 2 of the 10 games i played i received 293 points, my friend played 25+ ish games had a rating of 100 + ish and he received over 500 points, i don’t think the calculations are right anymore.
