What Are Some World of Warcraft Leveling Tips?

Posted on May 23, 2007 by Apadwe

I am completely new to WoW and MMORPGs to begin with, and have been told it's taking me an extremely long time to level. I have a level 20 undead warlock, and I thought I was doing pretty well. Any tips on cutting down leveling time? I just want to be able to play with my friends, but with 50 levels to go, it seems impossible.

There are some WoW leveling tips that you really want to live by whenever you are leveling. They have helped me out a whole lot since I started playing and I know they will greatly benefit you as well. The tips can also be summed up in about 7 tips.

Tip #1: Grab as many quests as possible whenever in a town and don't return until they are all completed. This cuts down on travel time and it really is a lot of fun turning in 5-9 quests at the same time! :)

Tip #2: Stay focused and have a game plan before logging in. For some people this really isn't a problem but, I know for me and some of my friends, it really can be hard to focus on leveling and I know I have lost many hours of valuable leveling time due to not having a game plan setup before playing. With a plan of action it really is harder to get side tracked by the auction house, PvP, etc.

Tip #3: Stick with a mixture of grinding and questing. One or the other by itself will probably slow down your progress but a nice mixture of both you can achieve the levels you want the fastest. There are tons of guides out there that will show you which quests to do, when to grind, and where to grind. Two of my favorite are Brian Kopp's Alliance 1-70 Guide and Joana's 1-70 Horde Guide. Of course I tend to use Joana's guide a bit more since I favor Horde but Brian's guide has helped me level up a few alliance characters as well.

Tip #4: Don't die! I know, I know…that one is kind of a given. Very simple but yet some players don't follow it. I know your character will die in the course of the game but really I'm talking about trying to do quests or kill mobs that are too high of a level for you. Dying repeatably only slows down your progress so if you find yourself dying over and over again I would either drop the quest or come back later after you gain a few levels. If only Blizzard kept track of how much time is spent running back to corpses…I know I have spent a lot of time doing that.

Tip #5: Don't be afraid of asking for help. Run into that occasional hard quest that you just have to do? Ask your friends/guildies to help you out. Remember to only ask for help when you really need it because if you start taking advantage of someone's help they will not help you anymore.

Tip #6: Make sure you read your quest log. Find yourself stuck on a quest? It has always helped me out whenever I reread the quest description for the quest I'm doing. This tip also helps everyone else that is playing and saves you a lot of flaming if you ask about a quest in chat. 99% of all the quest questions you have will be answered in the quest log.

Tip #7: Pay attention to the talents you choose while leveling. Of course while leveling you want to have tons of DPS (damage per second) so you can take down mobs faster and therefore level quicker. It really surprises me how many people ignore the talent tree while leveling. Pay attention to it and choose talents that will be able to help you kill mobs faster. For example, if you were leveling a Paladin you wouldn't want to put your talents in the Holy tree (better healing doesn't help you kill mobs) but instead put them into a damage dealing talent tree.

I'm sure these 7 tips will be able to help you level up faster. Also keep in mind that the game was designed to take a while leveling to hit level 70 and if your play time is really limited it will take even longer to level up. Don't worry….it just takes some time and these World of Warcraft leveling tips will help you make better use of your play time.

Like always, if anyone has any tips to add feel free to let everyone know and post it in the comments section.

Good tips. Sites such as Thottbot (www.thottbot.com) and WoW Head (www.wowhead.com) can save you a lot of time by looking up quests for additional information.

Great point! I can't believe I forgot to mention those sites. Oh and we can't forget about Allakhazam! :)

Jame's guide's on Wow-pro.com are very detailed and a nice place to start from in building your own plan for a session of leveling. They're complete down to the level of xp/hr benchmarks and advice on where to set your hearth, and (more importantly imo :D ) they're totally free.

Hi, tips #2 and #3 … have helped me alot. Matter of fact, With tip #2, I used a jotted down a quick memo here and there to re-focus me during a session. With tips #3, I grinded it out while traveling in a direction to fulfill a quest.

To save time, I would read the log and even check the map WHILE running on
a straight safe path. A safe path does NOT have enemies attacking you … remember that note. I noticed you can run … then open the map. It doesn't work to open the map BEFORE running.

My biggest error was when I got rid of my big , mallet weapon by accident (hitting the wrong key.

I ask questions to the guards, but thats it. If I might ask a simple question when it comes to teaming up with someone else.
