What Is The Best World of Warcraft Warlock Talent Build?

I have asked a lot of people about the best build for a warlock. I get a lot of different replies. Do you know what the best warlock build is?

You are getting lots of different replies from people since there really isn’t just one way to have a great Warlock build. There are some main ones that I will discuss here and tons of variations. The good part is you get to take one of these builds, test it out, and fine tune it to your playing style.

One of the first questions you have to ask yourself is…is your Warlock going to be used for PvE (Player vs Environment) or PvP (Player vs Player). Depending on your style choice here makes a huge impact on what your talent build will be like. What works for PvP won’t always be the best choice for PvE.

Sometimes, depending on your guild and if you raid or not, the best build for raiding really comes down to what works best for the team as a whole. For example, since i’m a warrior if I really want to raid I would have to redo my talent build from the Arms tree to Protection since I would be needed as a tank. For that it really depends on your specific role in raids.

Anyway, for PvE leveling going with the Affliction tree seems to be the best now especially for grinding. You will be able to continue fighting mobs one after the other with minimal downtime needed in order to regain health and mana.

Here is an example Affliction build (note that this is a lvl 60 leveling build):

Affliction Tree (41 points):
Improved Corruption rank 5/5
Improved Drain Soul rank 2/2
Improved Life Tap rank 2/2
Soul Siphon rank 2/2
Fel Concentration rank 5/5
Amplify Curse rank 1/1
Grim Reach rank 2/2
Nightfall rank 2/2
Empowered Corruption rank 3/3
Shadow Embrace rank 1/5
Siphon Life rank 1/1
Curse of Exhaustion rank 1/1
Shadow Mastery rank 5/5
Contagion rank 5/5
Dark Pact rank 1/1
Improved Howl of Terror rank 2/2
Unstable Affliction rank 1/1

Destruction Tree (10 points):
Improved Shadow Bolt rank 5/5
Bane rank 5/5

Here is an example PvP build. This is a lvl 70 build and also keep in mind this build is best used in the arena.

Affliction Tree (7 points):
Improved Corruption rank 5/5
Soul Siphon rank 2/2

Demonology Tree (43 points):
Improved Healthstone rank 2/2
Demonic Embrace rank 5/5
Fel Intellect rank 3/3
Fel Domination rank 1/1
Fel Stamina rank 3/3
Demonic Aegis rank 3/3
Master Summoner rank 2/2
Unholy Power rank 5/5
Demonic Sacrifice rank 1/1
Mana Feed rank 1/3
Master Demonologist rank 5/5
Demonic Resilience rank 3/3
Soul Link rank 1/1
Demonic Knowledge rank 3/3
Demonic Tactics rank 4/5
Summon Felguard rank 1/1

Destruction Tree (11 points):
Improved Shadow Bolt rank 5/5
Bane rank 5/5
Shadowburn rank 1/1

That should give you an excellent starting point and plenty of stuff to play around with in order to get to a build that you will like.

Yeah that Arena build is really good. Ive seen a lot of locks with that build totally kick butt in Arena. My shaman unfortunely knows how good that build is lol..

  2. Anthony says:

My personal preference for arena is affliction. I 2v2 and 3v3 with a shadow priest thus increasing my shadow dmg by 25%.

    My build is
    43/7/11

    My 2v2 set up is
    SP/Lock
and my 3v3 set up is
    Frost Mage/SP/Lock

but it really is up to how it will help the team, if you cant find a SP, go SL/SL.

  3. Weblock says:

in your pvp build you gave 2 talent points to siphon life, but you can not get siphon life unless you spend 20 point in the talent tree and you only spend 7. Isn’t this a waste of two points?

  4. erik says:

I reckon Demonology builds the best

well i got a pretty new mixed warlock build wich i’m very happy with..it does ok for PvP and PvE. The build looks bit weird at first but if u think about it it would really do fine i think. got to lvl64 with my lock and till now it only gets better. the build is set till 70

    Affliction
    Corruption: 5/5
    Improved Lifetap: 2/2
    Soul siphon: 2/2
Improved Drain soul: 1/2 (helps on gaining mana with grindin/lvling, u can give it to suppresion if u prefer)
    Improved Curse of agony: 2/2
    Fel concentration: 5/5
    Amplify curse: 1/1
    Nightfall: 2/2
    empowered corruption: 3/3
    Siphon life: 1/1
Curse of exhaustion: 1/1 ( esp the buff with the succubus: increases all damage cause by 10% and if u get the soul link it gives u another 5% and since groups like that a locks do some seducing u’ll get that dps buff and can overpower almost everyone in group)

Soul link: 1/1 (20% of the damage done to u is taken by ur pet… nice for PvP but also for PvE if u overaggro in a instance or such… u’ll be able to take a few hits, unlike a mage or such)

I’m very happy with this build and i think its really recommandable though some people don’t see the use of it… but i do and especially because of the +10% shadow damage & lifedrain(from points in shadowmastery (affliction tree) and the +10% +5% damage from the soul link buff and master demonologist(if u have the succubus active)… u count it out urself and decide for ur own. i love it so goodluck

qomething went wrong there i see..
    my build is 30-31-0
    Affliction

look in the message above here…after curse of exhaustion we continue
Curse of exhaustion is ideal for PVP cause u can hold a rouge, warrior, any melee enemy’s off cause of the slowing efffect…really anoying for them but fun for u

then put another 5 points in Shadow mastery wich will give u 10% more lifedraining and 10% more shadow damage…

In the demonology tree u put poins in the next things
    5/5 demonic embrace
2/3 on improved imp or 2/2 in improved Healthjstone …choose what u prefer
    3/3 Fel intellect
3/3 improved succubus ( really handy cause the better seducing and this is the best demon cause of the buff u get soon)
    3/3 fel stamina
3/3 Demonic Aegis (gives u more lifedrain and more spell damage)
5/5 demonic power good for PvE and not bad for pvp
1/1 Demonic sacrifice (needed to get soul link)
5/5 Master Demonologist(just take the succubus in an instance…gives u 10% to all damage buff u get from putting points in this…together with the improved succubus this combo does it all)
1/1 soul link…(gives ur pet and urself another 5% more damage…
and 20% of the damage taken is taken by ur pet instead of urself, good for pvp and pve)
Together shadow mastery(from affliction tree) and master demonologist and soul link gives u a 15%damge to all ur spells and another 10% dmg to ur shadow spells…wich u’ll use most anyway so thats nearly +25% damage!!)
Till now i top the dps bills in the instance and i’m lvl 68 by now..try it out i would say..

I don’t know why I never see anything about destruction warlocks. I have been full destruction since lvl 40 and I haven’t looked back. The damage is HUGE. Yes I may have to sit and drink after 3 4 or 5 mobs (depending on crits) but overall the damage is worth it. My lock can deal out damage and crits in no time flat. Immolate, incinerate, conflagerate, shadowfury, and shadowbolt. CoE followed by Soul Fire is devastating in PvP. I have always been a fan of balls to the wall, fast damage, and nothing gets it done like destruction tree.

why are you wearing that stupid man suit

  9. bob says:

i think the best PvP built is SL/SL
    27-34-0

  10. antegeia says:

Hi guys to all of you who use warlocks in wow. i have been playing wow since 2002
and my favorite-best character is warlock……so i tried many combinations with
my talent tree. First affliction, then demonology and finally destruction.
Destruction is the best talent tree for a warlock in PvP because you have both Fast and Great damage. Last year i remember i was in Ashenvale for a quest and deal
with a Boss 32 lvl behind Felfire Hill. My lock was 28 and affliction talent tree, so i tried many times to deal with this demon kind boss and i failed. Next day by
luck i read in the official site of wow-europe.com (forum) that best-recommended
talent tree for warlock in PvP is Destruction of course because as i said before
you can deal out fast and great damage. From that moment my lock unlearned his
affliction talents and learned destruction instead. I tried again my luck with
32 lvl Boss and i succeed even at PvE as you understand.
Try destruction talents for a change…..won’t hurt you

  11. Destruction says:

i think dest is good cuz u can crit so many times n if they hit u make instanct shadowbolt procs almost every 2 hits n can easile kill every1, but u are most likely to die fast if they hit u , Sl/sl gives u more hp, mana n make the dmg got reduced a lot, but so slow to kill some1 but safe XD , im dest since 60 n im not changing back :) (sorry for the bad english but i dont know to much english)

  12. umm thats real funny antageia because ms. “ive played wow since 2002″ seeing as the game didn’t come out until 2004 good going proving to all of us that your a liar. But I do agree that destruction whips dmg like no other, but if a rogue crits ambush then uses preperation and shadowsteps then ambushes again im dead o r even if his killing frenzy strikes 3 times after an ambush or even if his ambush is high enough im dead. I agree sl/sl lasts longer but when your 1 v 4 ur gonna wish u had destruct for dot tu go down then in 15 seconds they all do too =]]

  13. antegeia says:

Dear Friend???…. jonah bogeart, before you call somebody a liar, better make a good……and i mean a very very good search for something (even wow). Ask anyone who really realy knows when first beta server-wow came out!!!! Right now i returned
back to my country, cause its my job to travel everywhere. The point is that i’m 31
years old now and i remember that when i made my first program with fortran format (computer language) at 1989 (yes i was 12 year teenager), some of you didn’t even
exist and some others were climbing on trees………..SO BEFORE U INSULT SOMEONE, PLEASEEEEEEEE MAKE A GOOD SEARCH. (sorry for my bad english)

  14. matthew says:

uhhhh u cant be a 12 yr teenager ur not a teenager till u turn 13…

  15. that1lock says:

Dest is the best,im a lvl 40 lock and i own all who come near.the only problem is once you run outta mana,ur dead. So,try to kill them,b4 they do the same to you.P.Sthat wont be that hard :D

  16. Selryn says:

While some make valid claims about which spec to choose, here are some considerations:
#1 Raiding Builds/vs role you have in raid
    a. Max Damage DPS, you will go with a deep destro, normally 3/13/54 or 0/13/57
    b. Raid utility, for demonic pact, demon cookies and ISB 0/58/12

I personnaly chose the 0/41/30 build so that I can get decimate while still having the FG and ISB since we are normally short in my raid for mages with scorch.

Leveling, 1-49 affliction, endless mana little down time 50-80 Demo, the FG is ruthless, and is an awesome leveling tool

PVP in battle grounds go affliction you can dot everyone up with curruption and be an unstoppable force, for added bang Pull out your VW and you have a bubble and you can go anti rogue.

PVP arena, all locks worth thier salt go Destro/Demo partially due to the fact that you get soul link a durable pet, and a stun every 20 seconds, since ever class these days is pretty resistant to fear. but you still have them in your inventory if needed. Normally this is good on the healer.. and stun the DPSers from the get go, since shadowfury is instacast.

    Well hope this helps

Hello, I recently got into WoW and went Warlock and havent looked back… yet.
    So Ive reached lvl 41 now in some days of playing and loving the warlock, but I used a Talent Tree Calc or whatever and made this Spec (which is what Im going for atm);

    Afflication: 26

    - Improved Curse of Agony 2/2
    - Suppression 3/3
    - Improved Corruption 5/5
    - Soul Siphon 2/2
    - Improved Fear 2/2
    - Amplify Curse 1/1
    - Grim Reach 2/2
    - Empowered Corruption 3/3
    - Shadow Embrace 5/5
    - Siphon Life 1/1

    Demonology: 3

    - Demonic Embrace 3/3

    Destruction: 42

    - Improved Shadow Bolt 5/5
    - Bane 5/5
    - Aftermath 2/2
    - Molten Skin 3/3
    - Cataclysm 3/3
    - Ruin 5/5
    - Intensity 2/2
    - Destructive Reach 2/2
    - Backlash 3/3
    - Improved Immolate
    - Devestation 1/1
    - Emberstorm 5/5
    - Soul Leech 3/3

Can you (hopefully) skilled Warlocks see if this is a good spec, think the Spec is meant for PvP. hopefully I’ll recieve good “grades” on this spec by you folks. Fingers crossed.

    PS: Sorry for bad english.

PSS: Im not planning on relying on Soulshards, demons or help from other players with this spec, just you and the enemies. Thats what its ment for, but if it works or not is a different story in another book =P

  18. Micke-tv says:

I cannot belive that none of you have even mentioned demo-metamorphasis which owns, and can get you out of EVERY tight situation, PvP or PvE!

  19. Deanna says:

Hey guys. I just kinda started, and I have a lvl 25 lock. I mostly specialize in demonology. I went on this dungeon raid, and the leader was saying how a demonology shouldn’t even be a spec and such. Meanwhile, he’s a warrior… Anywho. He told me to look on google for a decent lock build, and demonoloy doesn’t seem that bad. It really helps in PvE(voidwalkers rock), and it totally improves my soul/health stones. Does anyone have any idea why he would call demonology useless? Thanks, D.

  20. Dave says:

Deanna – I’d say it’s because he’s a warrior. ;-) personally, I love affliction, but all the other builds are there for your enjoyment, so if you like being demology, then play it.
