How Can I Download World of Warcraft Patches Without Using Blizzard’s Downloader?
Man, it seems like every time I have to download World of Warcraft patches through the Blizzard Downloader it takes waaaaayyy too long! Is there an easier way to download the patches that come available instead of waiting on the Blizzard Downloader?
I feel your pain! It can and sometimes does take hours upon hours to download big WoW patches but the good news is there are a few places that happen to mirror the patch so people don’t have to wait for the dreaded Blizzard Downloader to complete.
I have found the WoWWiki to be THE place for hosted WoW patch downloads. It seems to be updated all the time and you can find places that host patches all the way back to 2.0 as well as finding all the PC/Mac patches and it also lists some general mirror sites which can host multiple language patches for the different versions of WoW. A word of warning though….be sure to virus scan any of the files you download from any of the sites listed in the wiki. Most of the time you wouldn’t have to worry about it since patches that have had viruses placed inside them are usually flushed out and deleted fairly quickly but you always want to protect yourself.
If that made you way too nervous and just want a site that is trustworthy you can always check out the list of websites that host the patches on the main World of Warcraft website. One of the only downsides with doing this is they are usually packed especially during a patch day and it sometimes can take a long time before you are able to download the files. Still is defiantly recommended and always a great place to look for sites hosting the newest WoW patches.
Another approach you can do with this is if you like downloading the patches with BitTorrent but want more control over the Blizzard Downloader you can always use your favorite torrent client and download it that way. This way will take a little bit more technical knowledge in order to get it downloading correctly but if you find yourself familiar with torrents you may opt to do this. More details about the torrents is on the WoWWiki.
Those are a few options you can take besides having to wait for the Blizzard Downloader as it really can take a long time for even small files. The good news is Blizzard seems to work on the downloader quite often and you can sometimes (especially with big patches) start downloading them in the background while you are playing WoW before the patch goes live. Hopefully, eventually, they will get it working extremely well and we will not have to find alternate places to download the World of Warcraft patches.

Yea, this really is a big problem. To download all the patches again, even if they’re already sitting on your harddisk! I’m trying to find a way to apply the patches without having to download them again – it seems however that the installer doesn’t allow this :S
…
Hey James,
If you already have them sitting on your hard drive all you would need to do in order to install them is to double click on the updater in the World of Warcraft directory for the version you need to install. Blizzard names them like:
WoW-2.1.0.6729-to-2.1.1.6739-enUS-patch
So it should be pretty easy to find out which one you would need to click on.
uhm.. yeah it takes me 3 days to download patches and i have dial-up
-.-
man… i feel your pain james! i have to download patch after patch without anything happening!!!! if i download bliz downloader.. it takes days to download… bliz should just let us play and if there is something that there is needed we can download by ourselves. it is stressing
heyaa

i’m experiancing it too
it took me 3 weeks to install ONE patch
x
Ya, im about to flip out i just downloaded a patch that took around 4 hours then i was about to play and now i gotta wait another 7 hours….god…i feel ur guys’s pain to…
man this annoying i have never played wow and bought the first edition and it has taken all dang day to download a stupid patch ive downloaded 4 patches and this will make five HURRY just want to play.
Yeah it dose really suck I just got the battle chest edition and I started downloading at 4pm and its 8:57pm its bull but to tell you the truth I think the game is worth the wait for a patch
Uhh… I dont think it is possible to play WoW with dial-up nick…
Wow!!! am I glad that I finally found a post that addresses this issue!!! I have DSL
and I have been downloading patches for 12 hours!!! I still have at least 2 more to go. However, I just realized that the mirror site may be quicker. I went through everything to try to get blizzard to speed up!!! I even uninstalled Norton. I really hope that this game is worth it. I think it’s a ripoff in a lot of ways. We pay @$60.00 for the game then we have to pay the online fees, then we have to take days just to update so we can play. Come on blizzard!!! Honestly!!! FRUSTRATED!!!
But hope that it really is worth the wait.
lol i guess that explains why they give you 30 days free then
oh and another thing thats really helpful try running WMP in the background it speeds it up a little and it does for it in-game as well
