Where Are The Best Places To Farm For Mining Ore?

I decided to pick up mining and I really have a hard time finding a lot of great places to farm for ore. It would really be helpful if you could tell me the best places to farm for ore whenever you are mining.

Instead of trying to tell you exactly where the best places to farm for ore I will actually show you a tool that I use to find these great spots.

The #1 tool that I use when planning out my ore runs is MapWoW. This site actually has taken the Google Maps engine and mapped it to the World of Warcraft map. It is very, very helpful and has been for a long time, even more so since incorporating gathering locations.

If you are at all familiar with Google Maps then the interface will be easy for you to use. In order to see all the mining ore locations just click on "Show Ore" on the right side and then checkbox whichever ore you are looking for. Currently, MapWoW shows around 18 different ore locations including:

  • Copper Ore
  • Dark Iron Ore
  • Gold Ore
  • Incendicite Ore
  • Iron Ore
  • Mithril Ore
  • Silver Ore
  • Truesilver Ore
  • Thorium Ore
  • Tin Ore
  • Lesser Bloodstone Ore

So, obviously one major thing they are missing is the ore locations in Outlands but at lower levels and up to Thorium it can help you out a whole lot. Besides ore locations MapWoW also shows Treasure Locations, Flightpaths, Herbs, and even the names of the different locations throughout the world.

I usually use the map to find the prime location for the type of ore I want to mine and basically kinda draw out a route to take that takes me through the most heavy locations. Just keep in mind that the places on the map are places where the mining veins CAN spawn and they are not necessariarly in that specific location whenever you come across it. It just is a lot easier to hit all the known spawn locations to see if the ore is there or not.

There are also some WoW addons that can help you out such as Gatherer which will keep track of every location that you have mined yourself. After awhile it might be more profitable for you to use Gatherer instead but MapWoW gives you a great start whenever you don't have any Gatherer data.
